It’s not often in our lovely industry that a new company is launched, and even rarer that said company causes more than a few ripples in the pool of interior design.

This month I’m happily featuring a new wallpaper manufacturer who will, I believe, be creating more of a splash than a ripple.

Brand McKenzie is a new wallpaper company formed by Richard Brand & Kerry McKenzie. Although the company is new, Richard and Kerry are certainly no greenhorns, bringing a combined 18 years of interior decor knowledge and experience to the project, 12 of which were racked up with one of the industry’s most prestigious design houses.

Their stated objective is to create aspirational and stunning designs that stimulate the eyes, engage the mind, captivate the heart and generate topical conversation. Brand McKenzie want to intrigue, exhilarate, excite and compel, in order to become the interiors brand of choice. A big ask, you may say, but let me tell you, when Kerry presented their initial collection to us at John Charles Interiors, we were blown away !!!

Bubbling with enthusiasm about their new venture, Kerry said “We have both been inspired by colour, pattern and different styling for a number of years, and wanted to use our imagination, as well as our previous experiences of design, to create living walls, using wallpaper designers who could interpret our vision, to hopefully encourage the world to use wallpaper, and bring vibrancy to any room.” Richard added “We love wallpaper, and it is our passion to introduce it to as many new users as we can. We also want to encourage those who have used wallpaper previously to carry on. Intricate, colourful, detailed, stunning designs are imbedded in our DNA”

Their first collection, entitled Tropical Daze, is truly dazzling. It is an imaginative journey through mystical islands and magical jungles, where the only boundary is that of your own mind. Made up of 17 designs with 44 colourways in total, each wallpaper has been beautifully crafted with care and attention. Utilising a mixture of fabulous colour palettes alongside some subtle monotones, the designs which include hand drawn animals, insects and foliage as well as dynamic topography, never fail to delight. And here’s the really clever bit: in the pattern book every colourway in every design is pictured in a room shot, making visualisation, and therefore final choice an absolute cinch.

In order to fulfil their objectives and bring an air of freshness to the collection, Richard and Kerry made the deliberate decision to use a number of wallpaper designers, each of whom demonstrates their own handwriting while slotting in beautifully to the overall ethos of the company. There are 9 in total, ranging from new designers eager to break into the market, to those with plenty of experience.

At John Charles Interiors, we have exclusive access to the collection in the Birmingham area. In fact, we love the collection so much that we are planning to have a permanent display shortly in our newly refurbished showroom.

Why not call us to make an appointment to come and see it. You won’t be disappointed.
